The main purpose of this funny trip was settling down my #2 to Bloomington, IN where he will attend the 4 weeks summer camp ๐
After checking him in at the dorm, I endeavored to walk around the campus for an hour as I have never been in this campus/town – ended up getting soaked with sweat and steamed with 90F+ humidity filled classic Midwest heatwave weather and reminded myself that I should thank Mr. Carrier for inventing air conditioning technology & be thankful for Seattle weather ๐
By any reasons without any specific reasons, I have always enjoyed/admired watching Cardinals games as more of generic baseball fan ๐ This team always had superstars made lots of fan’s eye enjoyable during the days I was following lots of MLB games ๐
To name a few; from that juiced McGwire, Rollen, Edmonds, and even funny father Tatis who hit 2 Grand Slams in a single inning to Korean famous legend Chanho Park (All Korean MLB fans call Tatis Jr as ‘Son of “One inning two Grands”‘), and recently Pujols, Molina.
Also this team had famous Korean players like Oh and Kim although was a short stint ๐
One more small in scale but historically meaningful landmark of St Louis (and its meaning as “West” in US history) & national park got checked along with Mississippi river. Now, I also paid back my son who taught me what 1 Mississippi, 2 Mississippi, 3 Mississippi.. meant decade ago by showing him the actual river…
For me this Arch has always been the landmark I saw whenever I had a chance to watch Cardinals games in TV ๐ and I also remember this landmark from some of my old consulting days as this Arch’s picture was used as a background pictures of PowerPoint templates…:)
Usually I try to avoid hotels in downtown – I always think the overwhelming parking charge is ridiculous but this was an exception as I wanted to see one of the baseball capital in US and the famous Gateway Arch ๐ and I used the free night ticket which ended up coming with this nice upgrade views
Now having a highschooler who learns various things means we have to send him to other states for multiple week long summer camp – Now I look back and even smile on the old days I was complaining to have “expensive” local summer camp when these kids were in elementary or so…
This year for my #2, it is 4 weeks in Midwest (and he needs to go to LA after this ๐ ) so I had to resume the duty of transporting the kid to out of town ๐ and due to conflicting schedule we decided to fly out to St. Louis on Friday afternoon.
Rather than getting ripped off at airport with hyper inflation impacted foods, we also tested Alaska’s in-flight meal (as this one is long haul – they graciously “sell” the meal with pre-order only:) ) which were Penang curry and Korean beef burger ๐
