흔하지 않게 동네 신문을 종이로 볼일이 있었는데… 1면 광고에 Boyz II Men 공연 광고.. 이 형아들 Boyz에서 Men으로 될때 한참 날라다니시더니 이제는 중년으로 가시는구나..ㅎㅎ 대충 나보다 연식이 4-5년쯤 더 되신걸로 기억하는데… 내 꼰력을 자극하는 광고다..ㅎㅎ

사놓고 조금씩 읽다가 말다가 한 책 어려운 내용을 나름 쉽게 설명하려 했는데 아 그런가? 하면서 결국 다 읽었다.. 수많은 사건 사고들의 원인에 대한 역학조사 결과를 나름 상세한 storytelling으로 풀어갔다… 역시 건축 토목은 아무나 하는게 아니구나란 생각…그리고 옛날에 천재들은 물리학과를 가던게 좀 일본적인 사고인가 했건만 그래도 천재가 하는게 물리학이란 생각..제일 무서운건 자연의 섭리라는 생각…ㅎㅎ 역시 문송인은 웁니다..
Nice book on explaining difficult things with great story telling and tons of scientific post mortems of architecture failures and power of mother nature…

Reading a book on the subject matter I have no idea & in a foreign language is still a challenge. Hence this book took some good time to digest and also has been on and off with all the crazy workload and multiple dramas happened during this summer.
The book is about a Antarctica expedition, and gave me good ideas on how leaders should act in various situations, and, in more detail, I loved everything the author wrote in extreme detail. (This book itself should be one of the mastery piece in explaining everything in details – the situation I would write as “Who is confused” can be detailed to few paragraphs)
우연히 추천받아 읽은책 Endurance 남극 탐험대가 탐험 중 조난/난파 당하고 빙산 위에서 해류를 따라 표류하다 결국엔 비상 보트로 탈출해서 전원생존한 이야기를 낯낯이 적은 이야기.. 아쉬운건 -특히 비전공영역에 영어로 읽으니..ㅎㅎ – 그림이 별로 없다는게 아쉽다.. (있었으면 한참 쉽게 볼수 있었겠지만서도..)
뭐 결국 사소한 거지만 내용적으로는 팀을 어떻게 꾸려야하는가.. 리더는 어떤 생각을 해야하며 어떤사항을 고려해야하는거를 정말 무서울 정도로 소소하게 & 적나라하게 다 묘사했다.. 한편 이책은 무엇보다도 서술 방식이 충격으로 다가왔다.. 정말 자세한 내용을 지겹지 않을정도로 정확하게 그리고 자세히 상술하는 작문의 마법 – 특히 영어로-을 경험하게 해줬다.. (물론 내가 앞으로 이렇게 영어를 쓸수 있다는 건 아니지만 분명 디테일을 묘사할때 영향을 받을지 싶다..)

Nice year end book read – I just barely skimmed the chapter titles and didn’t read thru it but using this year end as a chance to read thru it – good descriptions on company’s situation and challenges as a new CEO and what his thought are.
연말을 이용하여 뭘 읽을까 하다가 받아놓고 목차만 훑어보고 자세히 못 읽은 사장님의 책을 꺼내들었다… 🙂 뭐 직원 입장에서 잘 이해되는 것도 좀 있고 우리 사장님 나름 뼈속까지 미국인이 아닌관계로 사장님께서 말쌈하신 여러 사항들이 왜 그런 말들이 나오게 되었는지 알게되는 부가적인 이해도 생겼고..ㅎㅎ
암튼 이런 책들이 어느정도는 다 그렇겠지만 이분 참 훌륭하시네.. ㅋㅋ 십수년전에 읽은 Who Says Elephants Can’t Dance랑 얼추 비슷..ㅎㅎ

Maybe the next best thing coming from Korea after shipbuilding, semiconductors, electronics, and phone along with manufactured idol singers? – happen to found this and skimmed at Newport Way Library. Maybe maintaining good look is important, but I would rather focus more on developing “internal” look – or is it just me? 🙂
도서관에서 발견한 책… 읽어볼까 하다가 몇 page를 본 후 나와는 너무나 상관 없는 세상이라 그냥 패스… 사실상 책이 아니라 형행 색색의 사진들을 포함한 피부관리의 동아/표준 전과 수준…ㅎㅎ
경쟁력이 강하다는 건 인정하고 반가울 일이지만, 한편 한국이 이런 경쟁력이 강하게 된데에는 -경쟁우위 이론을 생각해본다면 – 외적인 미가 미덕이 되어가고, 더 자극적이고 더 경쟁적인 사회문화적인 배경이 강했을거란 생각에 씁쓸도 하다.. 그리고 한편 “인터넷 최강국”처럼 별로 쓰임새 없는 구호에 그치는 형국으로 점철되지 않기를 바라는 것도..

Great book on how Starbucks got out of jam during the turbulence and how the leader thought and acted. Maybe one of the best business book I have read after “Who says elephants can’t dance?”
보통 도서관에서 책을 자주 빌리지는 않는데 어쩌다 도서관에서 눈에 들어와 빌려 읽은 책… 나름 동네회사인지라 동네지인들로 부터 건너 들어서 친숙한 이야기도 있고 해서 술술 읽어갔다.. 한편 “독일 경영진이 쳐들어오기전 까지 Soul로 돌아갔던 회사”를 다녔던 경험과 “영혼은 그닥 중요하지 않게 생각하는 팀/회사”에서 일하는 나를 보면서 많은 비교와 생각을 했던거 같다… 🙂

Nice read on various topics reflecting Peter Thiel’s thought and his thinking process. The downside of book is it doesn’t tell anything about how (how would you even expect to have hows by just reading a book) the tones & stances are somewhat different chapter by chapter and those combined doesn’t seem to fit well.
Anyhow, good & solid read, but glad it is not like $30-$40 book 🙂 but kind of thing on how Peter Thiel views on business is pretty much well known if anyone has been following some articles in news & megazines.
뭐 말그대로 잘읽었고.. 마냥 새로운건 없는듯.. 소문난 잔치 건질게 많지 않듯이.. 내가 궁금한건 Paypal에 묻지마식으로 투자한 한국 투자주체는 누구였을까? 🙂
