DIY: Replacing Ventilation Fan

Maybe about a year ago, wife told me there is a burning smell of plastic at laundry room – and noticed the fan was on for some long period, and the burning smell went away when I turned off the fan. (and placed a tape on the switch not to turn on)

As this was the fan at first floor, getting access directly from the top was not an option, hence studied youtube videos for a long period and multiple times and finally attempted to replace it. This required lots of work – electricity wiring, hammering/screw nailing – as the fan was attached to different direction then intended, dry wall cutting as there was no exact size as old one in the market. Finally, found the fan’s plastic was broken causing the smell after inhaling lots of dust only after I tore down the existing fan. 🙂

After all – maybe saved about $150-$200 labor cost 🙂

오래전부터 가지고 있었던 To-Do list중 하나인 – 돌리면 플라스틱 태우는 냄새를 발산해 주시는 – 망가진 세탁실의 환풍기를 교체했다…(사실 세탁실에 환풍기가 그닥 꼭 필요하지는 않아서 미루고미루고 미루던 일…)

흐… 전기에, 벽에 흑.. 물론 youtube에선 쉽게 하는데 항상 그렇듯 내가 할려고 하면 – 특히 이렇게 오래된 설비는- 아무리 공부하고 미리 준비를 해놔도 결국은 실행 단계에서는 응용을 해야한다는게 스릴 넘치는 순간들….

덕분에 공임 대충 150-200불 아끼고 또 하나의 설비에 대해 배웠다.. -.-;

Sagging Gutter & Repair

Owning a home – to be exact – owning a responsibility to fix a home, taught me one more thing – Gutter can “sag”. All of sudden from some point there were extreme noise of water dropping at the backyard deck so I looked up and found a gap between gutter and roof-end and found out gutter was getting flatter and separating from the roof.. another priceless moment 😦

After hours of research on web & youtube, finally found the right materials to fix and enjoyed the few hours of climbing up the roof and crawling flat on the roof with drill on one hand outside to plant the fixers. I guess kind of band-aided maybe for 2-3 years, hopefully…

봄부터 비가 오면 덱에 미친듯이 비가 떨어지는게 수상해서 위를 봤더니 물받이가 틈이 벌어져서 지붕에서 바로 물이 떨어져 시끄럽고 덱도 망가뜨리는 듯하여 위험 감수하고 시도한 DIY…

덕분에 몇 천불 지출을 delay하고 또 한 단어 배웠다.. sagging 이라고 하는구나… 한 아파트로 3층쯤 되는 지붕위로 기어올라 가서 후덜덜거리면서 경사면에 바짝 엎드려 고리를 끼운후 대롱대롱 한 손을 뻗어 드릴을 찔러 넣었다…

휴… 무서워서 내 생명 후덜덜거려 몇년 감수한듯 싶긴한데… 한 2-3년 정도 gutter 수명이 연장된다면 더할 나위 없이 좋겠다… 오늘도 결국은 홈디포 & 로스 승…

Well these – installing garage door pad, changing the broken knob, and broken toilet handle -are piece of cake compared to fallen fence..

담장도 쓰러진 와중에 이런건 잔챙이급이라 웃기지도 않는다…-_-;

역시 진정한 승자는 당구장 주인이심…

요즘은 되는일이 정말정말정말정말정말정말정말정말정말정말 많아 아주 좋아좋아좋아 죽겠다……어휴..아… 아직 환풍기 작살 난거 아직 못고쳤구나…-_-;

Toilet Connector

Anyone who understand what Toilet Connector is and understand this picture knows what happened at my home. – one more thing – this toilet was on 2nd floor.

정말이지 아닌 밤중에 헬게이트가 열렸었다. 한편 사람있을 때 발생한 일이라 천.만.다.행…휴… 또 홈디포매출 향상에 기여해주셨다.

다른 변기들도 하나씩 미리 교체를 해주던가 해야겠다… 😦

Last DIY Project of 2014: Replacing Kitchen Faucet

집은 빚얹어서 장만은 했는데, 장만하기에 급급했고, 월급은 많이 못벌어오는 하찮은 인생에 뾰족히 Moonlighting할 재주는 없고 해서 반강제적으로 시작한 DIY.

집페인트 칠하기, 나무 자르기, 이끼 긁어내고 잔듸 씨뿌리기, 지붕에 올라가 gutter청소하기, 미닫이 문짝 다시 설치하기, 전기 아웃렛 교체하기, 세탁기 건조기 설치하기, 세탁실 장판 다시깔기, 냉장고 설치하기, 식기세척기 설치하기에 이어 올해 마지막으로 주방 수도꼭지를 교체했다.

사실 교체하고 싶어서 갈았다기 보다는 물이 새는 것 같이 수도꼭지 cartridge를 교체하려고 뜯어본 수도꼭지의 내부 부식상태가 심각한듯하여, 무심코 costco.com에서 질러버렸는데 사람써서 교체하려면 공임만 최소 200불 가량 줘야한단다…헐…-_-;

어쩔수 없이 연장들을 챙겨들고 싱크대밑을 기어들어가 낑낑, 쉽게 분리되어야 할 부분은 녹이 슬어 헛돌고+부품끼리 붙어버려 죽어도 분리되지 않고.. 어쩔수 없이 쇠톱으로 갈기갈기 뜯어가며 기존 꼭지 제거… 그래도 설치는 단순해서 다행… 암튼 last word는 – Thank you Youtube! 🙂 You thought me everything…

휴.. 내년엔 뭐가 날 기다리려나…-_-;

Forced into DIY fixing as I became a poor homeowner Dad who doesn’t have a nice paycheck and no special skills for moonlighting 🙂

Painting, Gardening, Changing the electricity outlet, Lawn seeding, Gutter cleaning, Installing dryer and washer, flooring, installing refrigerator, replacing dishwasher.. after series of this got into world of pluming 🙂

Originally intended simple cartridge exchange but found out lots of things are worn out after opening up the facet. So happen to order a new one form costco.com

Journey of back crawling under the kitchen sink… would have been a nightmare without youtube! 🙂
