사실 시애틀 매리너스의 최근 몇년간 -구속혁명과 발사각의 시대임에도 불구하고- 엄청난 영건 투수들은 키워냈지만 투수를 공포에 떨게하는 타자가 없다는 고질적인 문제가 있었다…
근데 올해 처음부터 나름 성실준수한 선수였던 Cal Raleigh가 미쳐가기 시작하더니 막판으로 갈수록 점점더 미쳐갔고 60홈런!! 마력이 다른 타자한테도 전염되기 시작하면서 마지막엔 팀 전체가 미쳐돌아가는 지경이 되었다…
암튼 시즌 중반까지는 어쩌면 와일드카드나 했는데 마지막에 뚝심으로 휴스턴 스레기통즈를 밀어내고 AL West선두로 끝냈다… 올해 post season을 설레게 만들어줘서 감사하다….
Thank you Seattle Mariners to make local fans to make the dream true to bring the top spot on AL West which always thought as a not so easy tasks due to Houston Trashbaskets….
아주 옛날 T-Mobile에서 일할 당시 맨날 건의 올렸던 게 MLB 혹은 야구 Sponsorship이었는데 회사도 떠나고 강산이 거의 두 번 바뀔때 쯤 그 당시에 이야기했던 게 현실이 되었다.
그리고 동시에 막연히 이야기했던 “본사가 Mariners 홈구장에서 10분인데 왜 여기 구장 스폰서를 못할까”했던 것도 어느새 이루어져 Safeco Field가 T-Mobile Park으로 바뀐지도 몇 년이 되었다.
암튼… 그간 한번도 방문 못하다가 우연히 애들 ticket이 생기고 해서 drop off해주고 pickup해주러 가는 길에 야구장 앞을 서성인 기회가 있었다…
KGJ가 처음으로 여기 구장을 방문하던 주에 시애틀에 이사 온 게 어여 18년전…. 이제 KGJ는 동상도 만들어졌네…. 🙂 – 오래된 Seattle 야구팬들은 이 구장이 없어질 위기에 있던 MLB팀에 활력을 불어넣어줬던 KGJ가 지어준 거라 믿는다…

In the old days when I was working for T-Mobile, we always asked the leadership to consider sponsoring baseball or MLB and even asked why not purchasing the naming rights of ‘Safeco Field’ – home of Seattle Mariners which is 10 min drive from T-Mobile US’ HQ.
After almost a two decade, both happened although I left for other business 🙂 and this summer I had the fortune to visit this “T-Mobile Park” to pick up my son and his friends 🙂
Also, near the home plate entrance now there is a statue of KGJ who visited this field for the first time at the week we moved to Seattle 🙂 – and old Seattle baseball fans still believe this new ballpark is a gift from KGJ 🙂

뭐 한편으론 이길 확률이 많지 않다고 생각했다 … 특히 지난주 경기 결과 들쭉날쭉하는 Running Back들로 Running만 하는 팀은 사실상 야구에서 무슨 공을 던질지 알려주고 투구하는 셈이라.. 그걸 뚫을 만큼 강력하지 않으면 어렵지 않을까 싶었는데 처참하게 – 어떻게 보면 한계를 너무나 명확히 보여주게- 졌다.. 잠깐 이나마 Passing이 되던 순간엔 이길수도 있겠는데 생각했건만 밑천이 너무 금방 드러나 버렸다..
나름 작년 Championship에서 서로 상대한 2팀의 대결이라 재미있을 듯 싶기도 했고.. 한편 두 팀 모두 지난 Championship게임에서 날라 다니던 선수들은 다 NFL로 졸업… 그리고 rebuild모드에서 헉헉대는 팀들이다. Washington도 벌써 2패..
암튼 Michigan경기 결과를 -좀 좋진 않았지만- 동네 뉴스와 티비로 볼 수 있어서 좋았다. 이제부터 이번 시즌 말까지는 Go Interlake Saints다!!
This was a kind of bitter sweet game, as part of me has been telling me this result as a possible result. Any team cannot simply win by running only as that is handing out the game plan to everyone. 😦
However, I enjoyed watching Michigan game in local TV and news 🙂 and now from this moment – Seahawks losing in ridiculous manner & Mariners failed to go to Post Seasons, my main cheer goes to Interlake Saints!
Yes Mariners had a good run – refusing to lose as much as they can with decent pitchers and good field players but San Diego series proved what is needed to win at higher series ball in autumn
You gotta have one or two fearful hitter -who can hit at any time- and fearless ~100mph 8th setup and closer. Having someone crazy in autumn is simply a cherry on the cake.
시애틀 매리너스 21년만에 가을 야구가서 정말 잘했다.. 물론 3-0으로 셧다운 되었지만 세 경기다 처절하게 버티다 마지막 한방에 가버렸다… 건실한 투수진만으로는 할수 있는 최대한 버틴듯..
역시 야구는 분위기를 타야한다.. 그리고 분위기를 잡는데에는 초강속구 투수와 공포의 4번 타자 놀음이 엄청 강력한듯하다.. 오늘 샌디에고 경기가 해답을 알려준 듯싶다… 물론 가을바람불면 미치는 선수도 나와야한다…
Long wait to see Korean player in Mariners uniform is over with Daeho Lee.. 🙂 Saturday night game with Texas Rangers (without Choo) and there was a bit of drama to see Daeho… 🙂 and game ended sadly 😦
원래 이대호 출전이 불가능했던 경기에 극적으로(?) 9회초 2사 2-3에 동점 홈런을 얻어맞으면서 경기는 이어지고 9회말에 상대편 좌완투수가 등판하면서 10회말에 이대호 선수가 나왔다…
이대호는 안타치며 할일은 했고 (홈런이었음 더 좋았을텐데…) 시애틀은 졌다…ㅋㅋㅋ 기것 Deep in the heart of Texas에서 원정 온 팀 경기를 골라갔건만 추신수는 이번 시리즈까지 아웃..흑..
