이 동네 신문은 SeattleTimes에 재미있는 기사가 떴다.. 일명 추신수 지표..ㅋㅋㅋ
즉, Seattle Mariners에서 그간 trade해서 아까웠던 혹은 trade후 “대성해서 Mariners에 뒤통수를 친” 선수의 성장 가능성 및 아쉬움을 나타내는 지표로 추신수가 100으로 설정되어 있음…ㅋㅋ
비록 작년엔 놓쳤지만 올해는 Indians가 Seattle에 오면 꼭 가봐야겠다..ㅋ

나름 개인적으로는 한국 Internet/IT 기업들이 미국에서 많이들 성공해서 나중에 내가 일해볼 기회도 만들어 주길 바랬건만… 하나 같이 어이 없이들 무너지고 있다…아 슬퍼라…. =.=;
한편 “윤군의 저주”는 무서울 정도로 계속되고 있다.. -_-;
어렸을 적 살던거 제외하고…이제 머리에 철들고 미국에서 지내본게 만 5년 째, 나 또한 Open mind로 하려고 노력하지만, 미국 사람과 5분만 이야기 해보면 대충 이 양반이 -물론 나의 버벅대는 영어탓도 크겠지만- 나 혹은 동양사람 혹은 한국 사람을 어떻게 보는지 파악이 된다..
혹시, 무한도전 제작팀이 유머와 재미 보다는 “우리가 그리 소중하게 생각하는 한국/한국문화/한국인의 자존심 혹은 우수성의 해외판 현주소를 까발리고자” 논란을 일으키는게 주 편집의도였다면 정말 경의를 표하고 싶다.. 정말 아주 정확하게 눈물나게 까발려주셨다…
영어 못하는 사람을 개 쳐다보듯 하는 사람들과, Excuse Me란 말에 전혀 Sorry하지 않은 표정으로 한 Sorry란 짧은 말 한마디로 지나가는 사람을 볼 때, 적어도 이 나라에서 내가 차별당하는 구나 라고 한 번이라도 생각해본사람은 나처럼 피가 끌었을 께다…
잠시 방문하고 가는 사람이야 1회성으로 그치겠지만, 여기서 애써 극복하며 남아 사는 사람들 입장에서는 적어도 최소 방송에 나온 몇 명의 사람들에게 그런 부정적인 이미지를 주거나 그런 이미지를 “확인사살”했다는 건 정말 열심히 사는 사람들에 등에 칼 꽂는 “역주행”이다..
그래서, 한편으론 외국 생활을 많이 해봐서 이런 현실을 알고 있을법한 타블로 형의 분노가 구구절절 이해된다.. 얼마전 박찬호 선수의 인터뷰 내용중 “본인은 어딜가도 이름보다는 Korean이라고 불린다”는 이야기도 이와 일맥상통한 이야기이다..
적어도 이 나라에서 100% 현지 발음이 아닌 영어와 노란 얼굴 실눈에 Korean이라고 불리고 혹은 단정지어지고 사는 건 상당히 “어려운” 일이다..

그런데 코치는 “그렇다면 잘 던지라”고 하고 마운드를 내려가더란다. 그 회에 최향남은 3연속 안타와 볼넷을 내주며 2실점했다.
나중에 알고 보니 코치는 최향남의 말을 “No problem(문제없다)”으로 알아들었다. 이후 최향남은 동료들에게 ‘문제없는 사나이(No problem man)’로 불리고 있다.
▽인생 최고의 김치=미국에 온 뒤 김치 생각이 전혀 나지 않았다. 플로리다 캠프부터 두 달 가까이 김치 없이 살았다. 그동안은 주로 햄버거로 식사를 때웠다. 이상하게 느끼하지도 않았다.
그러던 지난 주 홈경기 때 뉴욕에서 응원 온 한 교포 청년이 김치와 햇반을 전해 줬다. 그날 호텔방으로 돌아온 최향남은 혼자서 김치와 김 등 반찬 두 개를 놓고 한국식 식사를 했다. 최향남은 “정말 맛있었다. 내 인생 최고의 식사였다”고 말했다.
▽이놈의 인기는 못 말려=말은 안 통해도 미국 선수들과의 관계는 좋다. 특히 빅리그에서 내려온 선수들은 최향남을 잘 챙겨 준다. 최향남은 “나이는 내가 많지만 벌써 7명의 미국 선수들에게 밥을 얻어먹었다”고 했다.
최향남은 “지금 생활에 만족한다. 여기서 정말 많은 것을 배우고 있다. 빅리그 승격에 대해선 전혀 조급하지 않다”고 말한다.
땀과 눈물의 마이너리그 생활. 그러나 최향남에겐 하루하루가 즐겁다. 항상 말해 왔듯 “내가 정말로 원하는 것을 하고 있기 때문”이다.

—————————— 야구선수가 35세에 그것도 Major도 아니고 Minor로 말도 안통하는 곳으로 간다는 결정은 참 쉽지 않은 결정인것 같다. 것도 가족도 없이 홀로 이억만리의 땅에…. 사실 Major무대에 서기란 정말 쉽지 않은 일인데… (물론 지금은 하고싶은걸 하고 있는 양반이지만, Minor로 내려갔다고 차라리 편하게 살겠노라라고 한국 돌아온 양반도 있었다..) 성공의 여부를 떠나서, 정말 하고 싶은 것을 위해 도전하는 훌륭한 선수다.. 많은 생각을 주는 선수다.. 나도 어여 최향남처럼 화려하지 않아도 하고 싶은일을 하며 살 수 있음 정말 좋겠다… MBA1년 학교생활의 끝을 바라보며… |
