The hardest regular maintenance along with tire on Tesla has arrived – warning sign on windshield fluid warning.. so resolved with a quarter less cost solution
My kid said it was a simple hump over the pedestrian walkway while he made a turn. So I thought simple replacement of torn down windshield water tank replacement will do.
After having a look at inside the hood and replacing the torn down windshield fluid tank, I ended up finding out the pump is broken as well as the pin and nut for front and under towing hook also got broken. ๐ฆ
So I need to bring this to mechanics and this is failed or partial repair only ๐ฆ
All in all my Sonata is becoming a Cubanized vehicle ๐
After years of having different “ears”, now my Sonata has same ears ๐ (with aftermarket parts) The most irritating part is actually coloring the ears to vehicle’s color – Glad I have replaced the other side years ago and still has the colorings ๐
As my Tesla Y being closer to 2 years mark – I realized something is starting smell and I never changed air filters on model Y as Tesla doesn’t requires any ‘regular’ maintenance such as Oil change ๐ so as poor family man decided to go with DIY path
Y has, surprisingly, two types of filters like same as ICE vehicle: Cabin and Intake (I do not understand why Electric requires two though ๐ ) but ordered two types and evaporator cleaner as well
After watching several Youtube videos of changing each (which ~15min each for Cabin and Intake) – as usual- took total ~3 hours to finish both replacements:) haha yes ‘1 short video taking 1 hour or so’ rules are still effective ๐
This was the 4th nail in Tesla’s tire in last 20 months of ownership – The more I think, I come to conclusion that something is seriously wrong with design of this vehicle (or Continental tires?) …. I never had these many nails with other cars…
Tesla’s strict tire repair rules without buyback policy in junction with expensive Continental tire’s price, plus vehicle not having a spare/emergency tire, forced me to try rounds of temporary patch at this time as all tires have been progressing to end of life after two random single new tire replacement in last year.
First attempt of using with strip method totally failed ๐ but screw & bond method finally made me believe I bought enough time till Costco ordered new tire’s arrival…
After noticing flaky warning lights on and off of ABS and ESC Off light for a while at my aging Sonata- like years-, I have noticed those two lights have always showed up in dash from some point in past – maybe before pandemic. But as a cheap guy ๐ I have ignored with the thoughts that I don’t need ABS nor ESC Off function anyhow… ๐
However, in last week after going thru hilly roads, one driver who was following me for a while finally walked to me at the stop light and told me “Dude your break lights are off!” then my stress from ‘fear of getting rearended by a car behind me at night’ started ๐
As a cheap and stupid owner, I thought it was a bulb problem ๐ – I had my Odyssey’s bulb fried on both sides of rear for a while ๐ However, the bulbs at Sonata were absolutely clean without any sign of problems.
After some YouTube research and looking at Sonata’s wiring diagrams – I realized break lights and ABS ESC switch are all connected and controlled by the switch connect/disconnect on the lever behind the break pad.
So as a cheap and easy guy, I fall into the trap of YouTube always being easy ๐ finally ordered the part from Amazon and end up rushing to auto part store to buy a “when needed not easily found” 14mm ranch. After struggling with acrobatic posture of throwing myself at the bottom under the handle for good 20 minutes and finally replaced the break switch.
Now, here comes the peace of no fear of rear-ended and no irritating dash lights plus likely I saved some good $120-$130 cost for replacing this part at auto shop. ๐
