결국 그 날이 오셨다…잘 쓰던 Note10이 종종 Touch 컨트롤이 먹통이 되기도 하고 무었보다도 Microsoft Teams 로그인이 되다말다여서 어쩔수 없이 교체를 해야할듯해서 사실 출시한지 2년쯤 된 모델을 구해서 4년반을 썼으니 이정도면 내구성은 아주훌륭했다….문제는 더이상 업데이트 지원이 없다는점….
암튼 야심차게 폴더 폰으로 가겠다 맘먹고 찾다보니…가격이 ㅎㄷㄷ…..그냥 계속 노트급으로 써야겠다 했는데 쓰고 있던 노트10+가 마지막버전 전 버전 모델이어서 노트는 더이상 없으니 사촌 뻘되는 S 시리즈 울트라로 바꿔탔다….역시 주머니 사정이 심심하여 최신보다 2년된 그것도 refurbished로….ㅎㅎ 🙂
나름 이제 AI도 붙어있다하니 사알짝 기대도 된다…
After 4.5 good years of intensive use, my good and old Note 10+ started to express its limited remaining life….felt sad but happy to switch to Galaxy S23 Ultra…
Finally we received the official documents in paper and A graduated successfully from Interlake High school. After the long journey of nationwide 20+ college applications with handfull tears and joys, A decided to go down to LA.
Thank you USC and few others for believing A’s potential and middle-finger you terrible schools who turned down on him 🙂
This was truly a journey even for the families as well as student himself and hope everything turn out positively from now ❤️
After going thru all these emotional roller coaster ride, I am realizing there were tons of emotional or any oyher supports we got as a family. So my humble thanks to all who cared and cheered for Andrew durung the journey. Everyone is happy except my wallet and savings 🙂
온갖 롤러코스터 끝에 결국 큰 분은 LA로 향하기로 결정했다…우리도 쉽지 않은 결정이었고 이헌저런 사연 복잡한 지원자였던 우리아들 때문에 학교도 쉽지 않았을 결정일듯싶다…다 지나고 보니 정말 지원 과정에서 이래저래 사소할 수 있는 일들로도 고마운 분들이 참많았다…더불어 다끝나고 보니 학교들도 색들이 명확하고 원하는 인재상들도 명확하다…(물론 개쌍욕나오는 학교들도 몇몇 있었다…평생 저주하며살테다…흥!!)
보수동 칼리지는 우리 큰 분의 가능성을 보시고 용서해 주셨던 고마운 곳… 그리고 한때는 여기로 결정하고 Deposit도 내고 건너올 준비를 하고 있었지만 결국은 그냥 이 기회를 날려버리는걸로 결정하게 되었다
아무튼 하필 이 일대에서 일전에 구경 못해 본 2개 대학들 중 하나라 구경도 하고 후회할거면 후회도 해보자란 심정+부모로써 감사한 ojirap 마음을 전달하기 위해 방문했다..
예상했다시피… 진 to the 짜 훌륭한 대학이다… 학교 캠퍼스나 학생들 및 학교 관계자들 모두 반듯하고 깔끔하고 정말 좋은 인상을 받고 왔다…학교 앞에서 마음속으로 큰절 한번 드리고 왔고 날려버린 Deposit에 후회가 없게 되었다…
As a stop to go back to airport, we stopped and visited Boston College which has a special meaning to me – Thank you again for believing A’s potential. The campus, buildings, town, staffs, and students were beautiful and I was having a hard time to hold myself from bowing my heads down to earth to this institution. Plus, now I don’t have any regrets on the deposit I blew up on here. BC deserves well enough to take my money although it was small 🙂
마지막으로 Cornell다니는 친구 아드님 밥 사드리고 Cornell/Ithaca에서의 알찬 하루를 마친 후 이제는 진짜 집으로 돌아가야 할 시간이 다가왔다. 사실 Ithaca에서 동쪽으로 갈 때 Syracuse를 통해 I-81/I-90으로 가는게 좋은 지 아니면 남동쪽의 local 길을 한참 달린 후 I-88을 통해 동쪽으로 가야할 지 의견들이 분분한데… (어차피 I-88과 I-90은 Albany외곽에서 만남…)
논쟁의 요지는 I-88로 가면 시간은 15-30분 save되고 Toll도 아주 조금 절약 되지만 local을 많이 지나야 하고 Freeway도 첩첩 산중이라 야생동물 출현이 많아 특히 밤에는 좋지 않다…
결론적으로는 출발 직전 잠시 고민하다 “해지기 전까지 Freeway를 탈수 있으면 -장거리를 가야하기 때문에- 조금이라도 빨리 도착하는 길을 가야겠다”하고 과감히 I-88을 향해 달려갔다.. 오후에 폭우도 오는 바람에 길도 아주 살짝 미끄러웠고, 예상 대로 어느 구간에서는 New York State Patrol이 내 뒤를 5분 정도 local길로 따라오고 🙂 (아마 주구장창 speed gun쏘면서 왔을거다….) 무사히 해가 지기 직전에 NY-79, NY-206국도를 주파하고 I-88에 진입하며 어둠속에 첩첩산중을 달리기 시작했다…
중간에 화장실도 한 번 가고 하면서 비록 Mass Pike 구간의 1/3정도는 야간 freeway공사와 사고 복구로 감축된 차선으로 달려야했지만 대략 총 5.5시간에 편안히 주파하고 (Jeep Compass만세!! 🙂 ) Boston외곽의 outer beltway동네에 도착하고 이번 여행의 마지막 밤을 보냈다…
After having a dinner with my buddy’s son who are attending Cornell, we had to leave to east to finish the last major driving of this trip 🙂 There has been lot of questions and debates on which route is better for anyone who needs to go east from Ithaca whether to go with I-81/I-90 via Syracuse after shorter local roads or I-88 after longer drive of local roads – The main point of discussions were the safety -especially at night- and road conditions as two route only have 15-30min difference.
After quick thought, I decided to take I-88 with the idea that it will be okay if I can reach I-88 before the sunset 🙂 and it was a success although the local roads were slightly slippery and had New York State Patrol following me for any opportunity(?) for speeding at local roads 🙂
Anyhow I ended up enjoying the drive in dark in the middle of nowhere/mountains in I-88, and successfully merged into I-90/Thruway at Albany and continued to east via NY Thruway and Mass Pike which was full force construction mode 🙂 -maybe 1/3 of Mass Pike drive was on reduced lanes due to midnight constructions.
구지 Syracuse까지 갔던 건 사실 꼬맹이군이 Cornell을 구경하고 싶다고 해서였다.. Syracuse 호텔에서 아침부터 1시간 운전하면 나오는 이를 열심히 딱는 Ithaca –
20년전 준비도 부족한 채 유학 나올 때 현실적인 것들을 모두 고려하여 가장 오고 싶던 학교 중 하나 였고 Admission도 주셨던 고마운 학교… 그때 배신 때린 빚을 이렇게 나마 20년 후에 갚는 셈 치자고 찾아왔다.. (물론 그 배신의 빚은 한편 올해 우리 큰 분의 결과로 갚은 셈 치긴 했지만서도…:)ㅎㅎ)
암튼 항상 와보고 싶었던 학교였는데 컷던 기대 이상으로 학교가 멋지다고 생각했다. 학교 information session에서도 학교의 class가 느껴졌고 tour guide 학생도 열정 만땅으로 최악의 날씨임에도 불구하고 열심히 학교와 학교 생활을 설명해줬다. 난 개인적으로 NYU에서 항상 주장하는 City is the campus는 bullshit이고 학교가 아무리 도시에 있더라도 최소한 학교와 학교 밖을 구분하는 경계는 있어야 한다고 생각…
게다가 보너스로 Tour Guide학생이 소개시켜 준 농생대관의 아이스크림 부스는 근래 먹어본 아이스크림 중 최고로 맛있었다.. 더운 날씨에 멋진 학교 건물에 앉아 맛있는 아이스크림을 먹는 건 축복이라 생각된다…. (안먹고 왔으면 어쩔….)
The main reason we drove west to Syracuse was to check out Cornell at Ithaca which is 1 hour away from Syracuse 🙂 Cornell was beautiful and classy as I imagined and I truly like the school sitting on a beautiful campus structure (I hate the statement, which NYU always uses, that the City is the campus … 🙂 )
Also, as a not-well-prepared MBA applicant in 20 years ago, Cornell’s Johnson was my realistic & humble target school when I was preparing my MBA at then and it has remained as my mental debt that I didn’t choose to enroll after admitted. So this trip is my gentle payback after 20 years 🙂 – although I think I somewhat paid back to Cornell with A’s admission result this year 🙂
The true gem experience was checking out CALS Dairy Bar at CALS building in hot summer – one of the best ice creams I had in recent years 😛
Anyhow – it was a great and very informative visit and I wish Cornell’s path and my family’s path might cross again! Although I consider myself still a man of Blue blood, go Big Red!
털린 영혼과 새빨갛게 타버린 얼굴면상을 한 채로 또 작렬하는 태양빛을 받으며 다음 행선지를 향해 서쪽으로 달려가 Syracuse에서 하루 밤 묶었다… 신기한건 호텔이 무슨 1800년대 건물을 hotel로 renovate한 거라 해서 신기한 마음에 숙박했는데 생각보다 아주 훌륭 (단 바닥이 삐그덕 소리가 나서 -내방뿐만 아니라- 주위 방의 사람들이 돌아다니는 소리가 다 그대로 전달…ㅋㅋ)
저녁은 모르는 동네에서 뭘 먹지하다가 우연히 발견한 Dave’s Hot Chicken을 먹었다.. 역시 한국인으로써 매운 치킨을 한국식 양념을 하지 않은 채로 먹는다는 건 치킨에 대한 모독으로 간주하기로 했다…
After losing soul during the rides and getting sun-burnt on all arms and faces, drove to northwest to Syracuse, NY. (and believe paid countless tolls in Mass Spike and NY Thruway 🙂 )
Happen to find Dave’s hot chicken and it was great although it taught me the lesson that hot chicken without Korean sauce is an insult to hot chicken 😛
The Skyler hotel in Syracuse was a kind of experience of 1800’s old building renovated to hotel 🙂 very comfortable hotel except cracking sounds from the floor 🙂
