Amherst College & Amherst, MA

물론 Boston자체도 대학촌으로 먹고 살기는 하지만 🙂 또다른 대학촌인 Amherst에 들렸다. 90F+ 폭염주의보 속에서, 전미 #2 Liberal Arts College인 Amherst College도 한번 둘러보고 제일 유명해 보이는 피자가게에 가서 먹어 주셨다.

한편 역시 Carrier가 에어콘 기술을 개발한 데에는 미국 동부의 살인적인 여름 날씨에서의 필요가 크다는 걸 새삼…ㅎㅎ

Part of reason we took detouring around rural Mass was to check out Amherst and Amherst College – loved the small school vibe and settings and enjoyed the pizza at Amherst city center

Plus steaming heat reminded me that any innovation is driven by strong needs for that 🙂 Thank you Eastcoast weather and Mr. Carrier.

Harvard University

철수강2 aka Calebville도 추가….재미있는건 여기서 둘째 학교친구를 우연히 만남…ㅋㅋㅋㅋ

여기를 끝으로 이제는 다시 서남쪽으로 고고…

Northeastern University

We also visited Notheastern maybe one of the college on rise of popularity with ridiculous accept ratio 🙂 thanks to their rigorous coop program… Another hard working college in recruiting students, impressed:)

보스턴에서 하루 자고 다음날 아침 근래 몇년 사이에 대학입시에서 아주 뜨거운 학교로 발돋음한 Northeastern도 방문했다…좋은 도시에 산학연계가 아주 좋고 사실상 학교가 취업을 보장해주는 정도로 지원을 해준다는 소문이 자자해서인지 인기가 폭발인듯…

학교는 아주 깔끔하고 실용적이란 냄새가 풀풀…그리고 BU와 마찬가지로 학생유치에 진심인게 느껴져서 고마운 마음까지 들었다….

Boston University

멀리서 보기만했고 항상 “저기 다니면 야구는 자주보겠다”라고 생각하던 BU도 제대로 구경….여기는 정말 학생 유치에 진심을 다하는구나란 느낌이 팍팍….

First stop at Boston University – I really liked how hard/serious they are trying to cultivate students…

Washington Square & NYU

정신 없는 New York에 왔으니 그래도 뉴욕개선문도 보고 NYU도 돌아봤다… 27년전 구경왔다가 화장실 찾아서 여기저기 다녔던 곳 …ㅎㅎㅎ

University of Pennsylvania

정작 보고싶던 “종”이랑 록키 계단은 구경 포기하고 (아 진짜 그 delay… 🙂 ) 성지순례식 찍먹 학교 구경…(나름 본인은 경영학 학위 2개가진 사람임..) 수 십년전이지만 그래도 동네 분위기가 옛날에 왔었을때보다 훨씬 깨끗해서 놀람…

Indiana University Bloomington

이번 배송의 목적지 Bloomington에 도착하여 꼬맹이군 4주간 지낼 곳에 잘 settle down시켜주고 나왔다.

나오는 길에 그간 궁금했던 Indiana 대학 캠퍼스 한번 쭈욱하고 구경하려고 차세워놓고 캠퍼스를 한시간 정도 방황하다가 더위서 기절하는 줄…. 화시 90도+의 날씨와 강렬한 태양 그리고 습도로 인해 땀이 주루룩 아니 철철철… 역시 Midwest는 쉽지 않은 곳이다 🙂

한 때 어렸을적 막연히 “가서 박사공부할꺼야!” 하던 학교 중 하나였는데 학교가 오래되고해서 이쁘고 좋네…

The main purpose of this funny trip was settling down my #2 to Bloomington, IN where he will attend the 4 weeks summer camp 🙂

After checking him in at the dorm, I endeavored to walk around the campus for an hour as I have never been in this campus/town – ended up getting soaked with sweat and steamed with 90F+ humidity filled classic Midwest heatwave weather and reminded myself that I should thank Mr. Carrier for inventing air conditioning technology & be thankful for Seattle weather 🙂

University of California Los Angeles

Bruin or Bear? 🙂 I do remember I took a photo in front of this 25 years ago when I was young and stupid.

MBA때 Admission을 받고 다른길을 가는 바람에 고마움+미안함+아쉬움+만약에… 등의 다양한 감정들이 곁들어 있는 UCLA 🙂 1998년 교환학생 귀국길에 들렸던 UCLA캠퍼스를 다시 들어가 25년만에 곰을 만났다. 그리고 2000년즘엔가 이 앞 Westwood에서 사람바글바글한 스타벅스에서 커피 한잔 마시다가 싱글데뷰를 앞두고 전략회의(?) 같은걸 하는 가수 김조한 바로 옆 table에서 커피를 먹었던 기억도 있다…ㅎㅎㅎ
