SPAM shortage? Pandemic leads to production problems – Honolulu, Hawaii news, sports & weather – KITV Channel 4

Not a surprise that this is a critical news in Hawaii, but I came to this news after wondering why I couldn’t find SPAM at Costco and Walmart in last few visits. Found reasonable package at Amazon and ordered thru it..

At the end – this is all because of stupxx pandemic (now I hate this more and more….this had enough of us..) and Amazon continues to be the winner 🙂

아 놔 이젠 스팸이 없다… 이건 고기좋아하는 먹성 좋은 사내놈 둘 있는 집의 대재앙…일단 급한대로 Amazon에서 몇통씩 파는 데를 찾아서 주문..

결국 이게 다 Covid때문이고 혜택은 다 Amazon에 돌아간다…ㅎㅎㅎ

Shortage & Pandemic

Stumbled into this message at office (I make 1-2 hours visit to office on Thursdays to make sure I have stable connection..) upon trying to pick my favorite Ginger Ale from office fridge…. Another shortage thanks to Pandemic, Wipes, Hand Sanitizer, Masks, Toilet Tissues, Woods, and now Aluminum Cans?

Few years ago, WFH meant “I can not come to the meeting – and maybe or may not be even reachable”, while that is now “I am reachable and work 24 hours” 🙂 Thought Door Dash, Grubhub, Instacart kind of business’ going away is a matter of time, but they are flourishing.. Amazon slashed restaurant delivery and their PrimeNow was not in a good shape but now it is essential part of Amazon’s business..

Now Home Depot & Lowe’s are running high and price of wood has rocketed up..

일주일에 한번 미팅 주재를 위해 (안정된 network connection보장) 잠깐 갔다오는길에 음료수 몇개 집으려고 회사 냉장고 열었다 발견한 문구.. 이제는 캔이 없덴다..이게 뭥미하고 찾아보니 진짜네…

아 진짜 이넘의 Virus때문에 바뀌는게 소소하게 많다.. 불과 몇년전만 해도 “집에서 일할께”는 심지어 “뭔가 집에 중요한 일 있으니 일을 많이 하고 연락하긴 힘들꺼야 혹은 회의에 못들어가” 였는데 이제는 24시간 일하는 모드.. 망하는게 시간 문제라고 생각했던 배달 관련 회사들은 contactless로 대박들 치고 계신다….

마스크, 세정제, wipe, 그리고 진자 이해안가는 화장실 휴지부터 시작된 부족현상은 사람들이 다 집에 있으니 허구한날 집을 고쳐서 Home Depot와 Lowe’s같은 곳은 대박나고 페인트가 품귀현상이 나고 목재 값이 두세배 뛰었다고 하는데.. 이제는 사람들이 밖에서 마셔대던 양을 집에서 마셔대시면서 이제는 음료용 캔 공급이 부족이란다… – 결국 많이 안팔리는 품목은 캔을 아예 안만든다는…아놔…헐…

정말 징하게 이것저것이 바뀐다….안그래도 어제 이 생활 최소 내년 7월5일까지라고 회사에서 깔끔하게 email보내주셨건만… ㅎㅎㅎ

Tomorrow is the Day After Tomorrow

What will be the next for 2020?

On last Monday, I thought some of the neighbors are doing crazy fire pit burning but found out that was the smoke from Eastern Washington following the wind – since then no window opening although today was reasonably okay-still terrible; getting worse with sunset…

Now, the news is saying all smoke collections from California and Oregon are all of sudden turning north to march into Washington…ha 😦 I do miss rain….. to be fair I never hated Seattle/Washington rain… while I have hated the rain in Seoul though.. humid/sticky)

월요일날 저녁부터 산맥너머 반대편 동네에서 난 Wildfire로 인해 산넘어온 공기가 나빠 창문도 못열고 살았고, 심지어 -말이 이상하지만- ‘원래’ 불이 나지 않는 이 동네에서도 불이나서 동네 뉴스에서 난리였는데..

내일부턴 아예 Wildfire의 명가(?) 캘리포니아에서 모아주신 Smoke와 오레곤 Wildfire Smoke와 함께 두손잡고 홀연히 북쪽으로 방향을 틀었고, 내일 시애틀에 도착하신다고 한다…아…OTL

Pandemic

지난 달에 재미있게 열심히 봤던 Netflix의 Pandemic (나 나름 documentary를 좋아함..ㅎ 닥덕이 되어가고 있음..) Flu와 인간의 사투를 보여준다. 한편 이번 Corona outbreak를 보면서 느끼는 점도 많음..

뭐 개인적으로는 이 series를 보면서 – 이미 중국에서도 인구 밀집도가 높고 교류가 많은 대도시가 있는 후베이성과 광둥성에 퍼진순간 이게 이제 최소 아시아 전역으로 퍼지는거는 시간의 문제라는 마음의 준비(?)같은 생각을 하고는 있었다… (물론 한국에서 ㅅㅊㅈ 같은 정신병자 집단들이 나올거라곤 예상을 못했지만서도.. 참고로 ㅅㅊㅈ 미친X들은 -나도 주위에서 이 미친 X들 때문에 너무나 고생한 지인들을 목격한 관계로 – 절대 협력안할거고 숨기기에 급급할 것이기에 다 발본색원해서 아작을 내야한다고 생각한다..)

아마도 문제는 면역 치유가 어려운 환자들을 어떻게 치료할지, 그 과정에서 의료진이 어떻게 될찌, 그리고 virus가 아닌 다른 환자 처리는 어떻게 해야할지 인듯하고 여름이 오면서 사그러들지 그리고 과연 온다면 미국에는 언제올것이고 무슨일이 일어날찌가 걱정이다.

나름 2009년에 H1N1 swine flu 난리 났을 때 Mexico에서 outbreak후 최초의 미국 환자가 Mexico갔다 온 Seattle사람이라고 뉴스를 때린지 1달 가량 되었나 싶을때 몸이 안좋아 병원에 갔더니 아주 아무일없다는 듯 너 Flu야 이야기하는 의사를 마주보고 나혼자 패닉하던 기억.. ㅎㅎ

의사: 너 Flu야

나: 혹시 이거 그 H1N1맞나요?

의사: 웅 Washington주에선 그 Flu밖에 유행 안해..

나: 헐!!!!!! 그럼 나 중증센터로 격리 입원해야하는거 아닌가요?

의사: 너 해열제 먹어도 열안내려가고 숨 못쉬면 그럴까야.. 근데 넌 여기를 네가 운전해 찾아왔을 정도라는건 그럴일 없다는 증거이니 그냥 집에서 약먹고 쉬어..-.-; 너같은 애 지금 Washington주에 족히 몇천은 있어..-.-;

이러기도 했던 나라인데 한편 몇년전 Ebola때는 전투적으로 격리+치료로 유입을 막기도 했었다. (근데 문제는 그 때 만든 기구/조직및 제도들을 Trump 행정부가 다 날려버렸다는 이야기도 있는데..) 과연 이번 게 미국에 들어오면 어케될지

암튼 서울에 있는 양가 어른 가족들 신경이 계속 쓰이네..-.-; 네이버 뉴스를 보면 참 가슴만 아프다..

Very timely series Pandemic from Netflix. This documentary series has been a good text book for me to see the things happening in China and Korea. This series taught me almost everything on flu and fights against it by human and gave me a good perspective on what is happening now except the stupid cult people spreading the virus in Korea.

I guess now the key is when it will get weaken, if it becomes weaker with summer hit, and if and when it touches US. Reminds me how wide-spread H1N1 swine flu in 2009 went thru US (I was infected!! 😦 ) and how Ebola defense worked in few years ago.

짧은 지식의 평범한 월급쟁이인 나에겐 너무 어려운 주제다.. 진정한 curve의 shift가 발생하지 않는한 utility는 커질 수가 없는디.. 선을 따라가 물가/inflation만 오르지 않을까 걱정..

아담 스미스의 국부론의 보이지 않는 손 부분에 이런말이 있다.. 예전에 우연히 읽다가 신봉하는 말이 되었는데 produce와 value 즉 가치창출인데 가격상승이 가치 창출을 가져오는지는 의문..

“But the annual revenue of every society is always precisely equal to the exchangeable value of the whole annual produce of its industry, or rather is precisely the same thing with that exchangeable value.”

소득이 올라간다고 경기가 활성화되어 성장이 있는 세상이 될거란 주장들을 보면 옛날 MBA시절 debt financing + 쪼개서 채권발행+ 몇번 더 쪼개기로 가치를 추가로 창출하고 1+1 =3일수 있다고 하던 Bank들을 보며 과연 그럴 수 있을까 갸우뚱해하던 내모습이 떠오른다.. 그렇게 쪼개 채권으로 유동화 시키면 돈갚아야하는 애들이 더 잘 벌어서 갚을수 있을까라고 질문했다가 이상한 넘 취급받았는데..ㅎㅎㅎ

암튼 어려운 문제다.

나름 장하성 교수님은 -비록 나의 모교 교수님이 아니지만 ㅎㅎ- MBA때 우연한 계기로 직접 말씀을 들은적도 있고 지배구조관련해서 공헌하신 것도 많다라는 생각에 항상 응원을 하는데 이건 좀 심히 어려운 문제같다..

Layoff & Online Media Advertising

Today was a bit of tough day at work – slightly different to initial rumors or communications, I learnt some of my immediate colleagues were being asked to look for new chapter in the work. Well, some things can happen and it also can happen to any one at any time, so this should be one of the moment for all to “continue the show”

However, one moment that really bothered me the most was when I was scrolling down my facebook app and noticing some obviously targeted advertisings. Don’t get me wrong, as I worked for online media business for few years, I totally get the fact that this is a perfect moment to pitch the service and especially via facebook – where people tend to be truthful on their work profile – with “target” company’s employees. But, I think, at least, the expressions or wordings on ads might have crossed the line a bit to targeted audience.

I strongly believe this is not a good way to promote things – especially taking advantage of other’s challenges – Would anyone love these ads if that person realizes these ads are targeting that person’s pains with direct words? This was a World Taekwondo Federation moment…

Personally, I think they should have toned down on their expressions or pretended they have not targeted specific companies at least on the words in ad.

Small attention to details can make big difference…

요 몇일 인력 조정과 관련하여 회사 주위가 떠들썩했고 예상과는 약간 다르게 우리 조직도 영향을 받았다. 뭐 이제 미국 직장 생활 10년차 – 이런일에 쉽게 놀라지도 않을 정도로 심장에는 굳은살이 하나둘씩 생기고 있다.

허나 눈쌀 찌뿌러트리게 만든건 누가 봐도 내가 이 회사 직원이라고 facebook에 써놨기 때문에 그걸 바탕으로 targeting된 광고를 뿌리는 회사들이 었다는 점…. Targeting이 나쁘다는게 아니다. 단, 적어도 이런 “안좋은 소식”과 관련해서 target할때는 최소한 target해서 뿌린다는 인상을 주지는 말아야 하지 않을까? 내가 직접 당사자였다면 지금 느끼는 불쾌함보다는 수천배 더 불쾌했을 것 같다. “내가 짤리니 좋니?”

고객 설문조사할 때 잘 작성된 설문지들은 다 타겟을 정하고 설문을 하는걸 알지만 구지 모르는 척 티를 내고 설문을 한다.. 그런 소소한 섬세함이 아쉬우면서 무서운 세상이다…
