상파울루에서 터미널이 오락가락하는 바람에 삽질 좀 했지만…(Terminal3 라고 해서 2에서 내린후 미친듯이 달려 3으로 갔더니 2로 돌아가라고 했다..) 암튼 집에 돌아가는 건 항상 즐거운 여정……:)
다 못끝냈던 Accountant2도 보고 푹 자다가 눈을 떠보니 Texas의 아침을 맞았다… 근데 선선한 가을같던 날씨의 겨울에서 새벽부터 푹푹 찌는 여름으로 격변….
After running around from Terminal 2 to 3 to 2 at GRU, finally onboarded the flight to US 🙂 maybe that ~30 mins of running around the airport terminals gave me a relaxing flight.

Dallas까지와서 7시간 대기하고 있던 이유는 바로 Brazil 회사 출장… 처음부터 다른 팀 이유로 가는거라 가기 싫다고 땡깡 부리다가 막판에 가지 않아도 된다고 해서 취소할려니 사실상 표를 날리는 형국… 결국 그럼 최대한 내 목적으로 출장을 재구성해서 가는 형식이었다…
결국 인생 처음으로 남반구에 방문하게 되었다… 북반구에서 태어나 평생 북반구에서만 살면서 최남단으로 가 본적은 아마 태국 정도일듯 한데…ㅎㅎㅎ
몇가지 새삼 느낀점…
1) 남미는 남쪽에도 있지만 북미보다 동쪽으로 더 튀어나와있다.. 결국 비행기도 그래서 Dallas, Houston이나 Miami에서 들어가는 Option밖에 없었다….생각보다 LA쪽에서 가는 방법은 별로 없고 그래서 비행시간도 엄청나게 길고 다 Red Eye란거란 마음의 준비를 했다…
2) 뭐 전혀 춥지는 않았지만 남반구는 계절이 반대다… 즉 Brasil의 겨울을 보고 온셈…1주일 사이 Seattle, Dallas, 그리고 남미의 8월을 경험하느라 옷 챙겨가기에 고민이 많았다…
3) 영어가 잘 통하지 않을거란 경고(?)는 많이 받았고 내리는 첫 순간부터 개당황…ㅎㅎ
암튼 좌충우돌 끝에 기대반 걱정반으로 Sao Paulo행 비행기를 탑승했다..불행인지 다행인지.. 🙂 회사에서는 올해부터 business는 안 태워주고 Premium Economy까지만 해준다고 해서 짜증+아쉽다가 남은 몇 안되는 Premium Economy잡아타고 갔는데… 나름 엄청나게 편하게 여행했다… Premium Economy는 미국 국내선 Business에 준하는 자리인데 -물론 누워가는 Business에 비할 바는 없겠지만-(사실 누워가보고 싶다!!) 충분히 편하게 자고 갔다…
그리고 Red Eye라 걱정은 했지만 시차 때문에 시간 털리는 Red eye가 아닌 비행시간이 긴 Red eye라 별로 시차 때문에 괴롭지도 않긴했다… (어휴 미국 서부에서 중부나 동부가는 Red eye타면 시차에 의한 강제 Red eye라 엄청 피곤하다-몇시간 자지도 못했는데 강제로 맞는 아침….)
암튼 몇시간의 숙면과 영화 한편 (Accountant 2 보다가 잠들긴했음) 책좀 읽어주다가 밥먹고 쓰러져 자고 일어나니 남미 비행기는 남미에 진입하고 더 졸다보니 어느새 어마어마한 대도시인 Sao Paulo GRU에 내렸다. (공항은 마치 인천공항 전의 김포공항을 보는듯한…. 크진 않지만 엄청 사람많고 복잡…-말도 안들리는데 정신 제대로 털려주셨다..)
GRU 🙂 OCI시절에 얼마나 울부짖던 코드였는지… 🙂 – Oracle OCI시절 Sao Paulo Data Center는 폭발적으로 성장하는 Data Center라서 항상 문제도 많고 이런저런 고민을 하게 만드는 곳이었다…

Main reason of this outrageous travel was actually a business meeting at Brazil 🙂 and I took my first step into southern hemisphere in my life…
Few things I realized
– Premium Economy actually is great – well might not be compared to business which lays flat – but still had a comfortable trip
– South America is definitely South but at the same time it is more eastern than North America so it took long hours to get there and that might be the reason why all major airports to South America in US is primarily at Central or East
– Also, North-South Redeye is less painful than West-to-East Redeye – West-to-East Redeye takes the benefit of time difference (short flight time and land at morning) so giving extra pain to travelers by “stealing sleep time” while North-South Red-eye have to be designed that way mainly because of absolute distance.
Anyhow after comfortable long sleep, landed at GRU which is the code carved in my head during my times at Oracle’s OCI… 🙂

DFW에서 7시간 Transit 뭐 해야하지? 하고 잠시 고민하다가 Dallas는 한인타운이 맛도 좋고 공항 가까이에 있기에 그냥 Uber타고 나가 점심먹고 Uber타고 돌아왔다…ㅎㅎ (Dallas는 Freeway가 예술의 경지다….어디를 가든 넓고 정말이지 아름답게 길을 깔아놨다고 생각…)
결국 공항주위에는 두 군데가 있는데 -예전부터 있던 동네와 새로 생긴 Hmart근처 – 잠시 메뉴 탐방하다 나주곰탕을 발견하고는 나주면옥에 찾아가 한그릇 뚝딱 하고 왔다.. 나이가 들어가니 국밥충이되어가는건가…ㅎㅎ 밥먹고 나선 뭐 좀 돌아다녀볼까하다 여름 Texas의 날씨에 기겁하고 바로 시원한 공항으로 back했다..
이 이후는 DFW공항 Terminal에서 Priority Pass benefit 뽑아먹기 모드로 들어가 미니텔 (말그대로 긴 쇼파있는 방하나 준다) 들어가 한시간 낮잠자고, 마사지 머신25분 마사지 받고, DFW Club에 들어가 커피한잔에 음료수한잔 드링킹 해주다 보니 다음 비행기 탑승 시간이 다가왔다…
I tried to be a good employee so took the cheapest option of flights and that action gave me 7 hours of transit time at DFW 🙂 so I wondered what to do…
After a quick wondering, decided to take an Uber to nearby Dallas K-Town and got the Naju soup I was craving and came back to DFW. After return, I realized I still have tons of time so tried to get every possible free benefits of Priority Pass 🙂
Took one-hour nap at mini hotel in terminal, took 25 min of machine massage, and even grabbed a coffee and drink at DFW club 🙂

진짜 오랜만에 타보는 American Airlines Seattle to Dallas 🙂 옛날에 T-Mobile에서 일하던 시절엔 Dallas 출장시에는 무조건 이걸 타야하는 정책도 있어서 많이 타던 노선이다.
그 당시에는 개인적으로 대한항공에 milage를 몰빵했던 시기라 다른 항공사에서 환승해가며 다른 비행기도 타보려 했었는데…. 암튼 근 십몇년 만에 타게 되었다… 이제는 Alaska에 몰빵하는 세월이라 Oneworld 비행기를 일부러 골라 탔다…
문제는 일요일 아침 Seattle에서의 첫 비행기 – 진짜 12시 좀 넘어 출발하는 red eye들을 제외하면 이 날의 공항 첫 이륙이다….AM 5:24 출발 ㅎㄷㄷ
결국 이번 여정은 국제선을 타야하는 일정이라 대충 AM3:00 이전에 checkin을 해야해서 결국 잠을 포기하고 새벽에 공항에 가서 대기하다 (가장 일찍여는 coffee shop booth앞에서 졸다가 뭐 하나 그 가게 직원들 출근하는거 다 구경하고 사드심…ㅎㅎ) 병든 닭마냥 공항에서 졸다가 DFW에 도착했다..

아주 옛날 T-Mobile에서 일할 당시 맨날 건의 올렸던 게 MLB 혹은 야구 Sponsorship이었는데 회사도 떠나고 강산이 거의 두 번 바뀔때 쯤 그 당시에 이야기했던 게 현실이 되었다.
그리고 동시에 막연히 이야기했던 “본사가 Mariners 홈구장에서 10분인데 왜 여기 구장 스폰서를 못할까”했던 것도 어느새 이루어져 Safeco Field가 T-Mobile Park으로 바뀐지도 몇 년이 되었다.
암튼… 그간 한번도 방문 못하다가 우연히 애들 ticket이 생기고 해서 drop off해주고 pickup해주러 가는 길에 야구장 앞을 서성인 기회가 있었다…
KGJ가 처음으로 여기 구장을 방문하던 주에 시애틀에 이사 온 게 어여 18년전…. 이제 KGJ는 동상도 만들어졌네…. 🙂 – 오래된 Seattle 야구팬들은 이 구장이 없어질 위기에 있던 MLB팀에 활력을 불어넣어줬던 KGJ가 지어준 거라 믿는다…
This place has connection with my personal histories….
In the old days when I was working for T-Mobile, we always asked the leadership to consider sponsoring baseball or MLB and even asked why not purchasing the naming rights of ‘Safeco Field’ – home of Seattle Mariners which is 10 min drive from T-Mobile US’ HQ.
After almost a two decade, both happened although I left for other business 🙂 and this summer I had the fortune to visit this “T-Mobile Park” to pick up my son and his friends 🙂
Also, near the home plate entrance now there is a statue of KGJ who visited this field for the first time at the week we moved to Seattle 🙂 – and old Seattle baseball fans still believe this new ballpark is a gift from KGJ 🙂

꼬맹이군이 현재 Boy Scout 대장인 관계도 있고 어차피 올해 여름 휴가는 다양한 사정으로 인해 물건너 간 관계로 그냥 Boy Scout camp에 참관인 부모로 따라갔다.
(사실 여기는 작년 여름에도 큰분 camping requirement를 채우느라 따로 오기도 했었고 몇 년 전에 애들 데리러도 와봤던 곳이긴 하지만.. 어찌되었건 공식 camp는 처음 따라와서 숙식을 같이했다..)
뭐 잘 해놓기도 했지만 역사가 유구하다… 100년 역사가 넘는 boyscout캠핑장 – 나름 작지만 박물관도 있고 미국에서 바닷가를 끼고 있는 유일한 Boy Scout 캠프장이라고 한다…
Finally had the first camp visit as a parent on Boy Scout camping 🙂 and was a good break from the normal days in life at historical Boy Scout camping site.

Finally we received the official documents in paper and A graduated successfully from Interlake High school. After the long journey of nationwide 20+ college applications with handfull tears and joys, A decided to go down to LA.
Thank you USC and few others for believing A’s potential and middle-finger you terrible schools who turned down on him 🙂
This was truly a journey even for the families as well as student himself and hope everything turn out positively from now ❤️
After going thru all these emotional roller coaster ride, I am realizing there were tons of emotional or any oyher supports we got as a family. So my humble thanks to all who cared and cheered for Andrew durung the journey. Everyone is happy except my wallet and savings 🙂
온갖 롤러코스터 끝에 결국 큰 분은 LA로 향하기로 결정했다…우리도 쉽지 않은 결정이었고 이헌저런 사연 복잡한 지원자였던 우리아들 때문에 학교도 쉽지 않았을 결정일듯싶다…다 지나고 보니 정말 지원 과정에서 이래저래 사소할 수 있는 일들로도 고마운 분들이 참많았다…더불어 다끝나고 보니 학교들도 색들이 명확하고 원하는 인재상들도 명확하다…(물론 개쌍욕나오는 학교들도 몇몇 있었다…평생 저주하며살테다…흥!!)

Marvel의 다음 스토리를 만들어가려는 노력이 느껴지는 영화였고 핸썸가이즈 빵터지는 웃음은 없지만 잔잔한 웃음을 주는 즐거운 영화였다…
The last flight of this Summer’s Boston saga…enjoyed yhe movies in the flight..
Marvel is keep-trying the stories continued and Handsome Guys was a movie making good smile, not laughter though, out of it…
