Journey of 6 month driving surveillance ended and returned the device back to insurance company. – They are claiming I got a discount but realized have no way to prove back.. 🙂
The renewal rate actually came in about the same price when I signed this up (which had the participation discount) but made me wonder whether this was worth of it….and also triggered me to think of total switch to Pay Per Mile companies…
근 10년넘게 애용했던 Costco 제휴사에서 가입했던 자동차 보험을 작년 여름 Progressive로 옮겼다.. (물론 Progressive가 제일 싸게 나와 Progressive로 가긴했음) 그리고 재미삼아 운전기록을 보내는 장치를 달고 6개월이 지나갔고 이를 리턴하라는 안내문을 받아 뽑아 보냈다. 한동안 은근히 신경쓰여 항상 긴장하며 다녔는데 (조금만 신경안쓰고 달리다가 급정거도 아닌데 좀 ‘진짜 급정거의 1/3정도’만 되도 삑삑거림…) 표면상으로는 갱신 요율이 ‘운전 기록을 바탕으로 두대 6개월에 100불 정도를 빼준’거라 하는데 생각해보니 이거시작할때 보다 요율이 살짝 올랐다… -_-; 물론 그때 이거 하겠다고 Participation Discount를 받은게 대충 백불인가 그러긴 했다.. 조삼모사 당한건가……
아예 이 마당에 그냥 Pay Per Mile로 넘어갈까 고민중.. 암튼 한동안 내 평소 운전보다 살살 몰고 다닌 연습한 교훈(?)도 배웠고..한편 그간 제일 곤란했던 신호바뀔때 교차로를 통과해야하나 서야하나를 고민하게 만들었던 건 안해도 될것 같다는 건 이제 장점이 되었다.. (거의 대부분의 삑삑이 (경고나 급정거 기록)은 신호바뀔때 서주다가 나옴…)
Pandemic이 길어지니 이상한 의지가 생기고 (ft. Youtube 알고리즘) 결국엔 아마존이 점점 승리한다… 매일 샤위할때 하루에 하나씩 세제로 돌려가며 빨아가기 몇일째… 의자고치기에 이은 새로운 취미(?) – 시커먼 때국물 혹은 흙국물이 나오면서 쾌감이 올라가는거 보면 내가 점점 이상해지는거 같기도… 이거 끝나면 이제 차 바닥과 시트에 있는 얼룩을 청소할 스팀 청소기 기다리는중..

아침에 우리집 사장님 PC가 부팅이 안된다고 불만 접수-몇번 reset을 했으나 reset후 매번 restart만 하면 또 먹통… 결국 Lenovo 고객센터 chat을 했는데 결국엔 reset하지 말고 완전 재설치 하라고 해서 하려고 했더니 Cloud시대 이후로 집에서 사라진 USB drive가 필요함. 결국 Amazon당일 배송으로 4:30경에 주문해서 7시에 배송 (와! 물론 2불 더 줌…T_T)- 배송된 USB로 Windows 10 recovery/installation media 만들어서 USB로 재설치 했더니 고쳐졌음..
앉아 있는 자세가 아주 American x100인 우리집의 덩치큰 한 분 – 한 동안은 이분 덕에 식탁용 나무 의자 모든 접합 부위를 고치면서 목공의 기초 도구들을 마련하고 기술을 배웠는데.. 오랜 remote수업으로 인한 여파가 이제는 다른 의자에도 미치기 시작했다. 특히 본인의 덩치가 커지시면서 이젠 다양한 의자들의 목을 죄는 ‘의자왕’으로 등극중 이시다.. – 혹은 나의 repair의 영역을 ‘beyond 목공’으로 확장해주셨다. 어떻게 앉으면 folding 철제 의자가 뿌러지며, 프라스틱 의자의 등받이도 나가고, 롤러 달린 office의자의 다리가 부러지는지.. 이제 이 의자왕 스킬은 연구 대상감이다.
등받이 부러진 프라스틱 의자… 1차로 순간 접착제로 붙여 봤으나 붙이고 실전 투입후 부하가 주어지니 2주일만에 다시 아작… 결국 연구 끝에 epoxy 접착제를 구해와 다시 붙이고 (근데 부러지면서 프라스틱이 휘어 정확하게 맞지 않음.. 고로 이를 위해 붙이고 몇번식 사포질을 입방 바꿔서 몇번하며 -완벽히는 아니지만 약간 어긋나게 붙은 부분까지 부드럽게 되도록 갈갈이 해주셨다… 그리고 페인트 스프레이 몇번 부려주고 다시 집에 있던 폴리로 광택질 휴…
철제의자는 휘어지고 부러져서 사실 피고 용접해주는 수밖에 없는데.. 일단 휜거는 망치질로 제대로 펴주시고 부러진 부위는 철제용 epoxy로 붙였다..
롤러가 달린 오피스 의자 역시 어떤 까딱 신공을 보였길래 다리 한 쪽이 아작 나는지 추정은 불가능… 이 역시 1차로 순간 접착제로 해결하려 했으나 바로 몇 일만에 실패…. epoxy본드로 일단 붙였다… 뭐 그리고 이건 눈에 띄는 부위도 아니고 해서 덕지덕지 붙은 본드 부위는 그냥 냅둠…
오늘 하루 – 이것 저것 고치다 다 보냈고, 홈디포와 아마존이 역시 승리 했으며, 특히 의자와 관련해서는 ‘자식에게 의자에 똑바로 앉는 습관을 들여주는것보다 내가 의자를 고치는 방법을 배우는게 차라리 쉽구나’란 탄식으로 하루를 마무리 중… 이 와중에 내가 기분이 좋은건 아무래도 다양한 chemical을 흡입해서 인듯 하다…

– PC reinstall with USB media : found no USB thumb drive at the world of Cloud, so had to order Amazon’s same day delivery and made the USB repair/installation media and recovered a PC which turned to black screen upon every boot
As our gentleman in the house -who never sits straight while putting more weights on chairs- have more time at home with various chairs because of Pandemic, this meant my chair repairing skill goes beyond the wood chair repair
– Plastic chair with broken back: after failed attempt with Super glue, went to epoxy glue. As the broken part was highly visible part of chair, had to go with multiple sanding after the glue and spraying paint and coating with Polyurethane.
– Bent Steel folding chair with disjointed horizon bar: so after using hammer and bring back the bent part, the question was whether I am willing to go into welding (which I don’t have any tools…) so settled with steel epoxy…
– Office chair: This is the still one of the mystery need to solve – how can you rock the rolling office chair?! But our gentleman must have showed that skill before he broke the chair. Similarly my first attempt with Super glue didn’t last long, so attempted with epoxy glue, but as this doesn’t have much visibility I am not willing to go into sanding/coloring part..
All in all, total four items in my household got the treatment, Home Depot and Amazon was the winner and I enjoyed smells from various chemicals (and now I understand why they check the birth date when I purchased the spray can..)
Stumbled into this message at office (I make 1-2 hours visit to office on Thursdays to make sure I have stable connection..) upon trying to pick my favorite Ginger Ale from office fridge…. Another shortage thanks to Pandemic, Wipes, Hand Sanitizer, Masks, Toilet Tissues, Woods, and now Aluminum Cans?
Few years ago, WFH meant “I can not come to the meeting – and maybe or may not be even reachable”, while that is now “I am reachable and work 24 hours” 🙂 Thought Door Dash, Grubhub, Instacart kind of business’ going away is a matter of time, but they are flourishing.. Amazon slashed restaurant delivery and their PrimeNow was not in a good shape but now it is essential part of Amazon’s business..
Now Home Depot & Lowe’s are running high and price of wood has rocketed up..

아 진짜 이넘의 Virus때문에 바뀌는게 소소하게 많다.. 불과 몇년전만 해도 “집에서 일할께”는 심지어 “뭔가 집에 중요한 일 있으니 일을 많이 하고 연락하긴 힘들꺼야 혹은 회의에 못들어가” 였는데 이제는 24시간 일하는 모드.. 망하는게 시간 문제라고 생각했던 배달 관련 회사들은 contactless로 대박들 치고 계신다….
마스크, 세정제, wipe, 그리고 진자 이해안가는 화장실 휴지부터 시작된 부족현상은 사람들이 다 집에 있으니 허구한날 집을 고쳐서 Home Depot와 Lowe’s같은 곳은 대박나고 페인트가 품귀현상이 나고 목재 값이 두세배 뛰었다고 하는데.. 이제는 사람들이 밖에서 마셔대던 양을 집에서 마셔대시면서 이제는 음료용 캔 공급이 부족이란다… – 결국 많이 안팔리는 품목은 캔을 아예 안만든다는…아놔…헐…
정말 징하게 이것저것이 바뀐다….안그래도 어제 이 생활 최소 내년 7월5일까지라고 회사에서 깔끔하게 email보내주셨건만… ㅎㅎㅎ
여느 90년대의 고등학생처럼 그땐 이 큰 농구가방을 매고 공부를 하곤했었고 재수할때 내내 무거운 책들 넣고 다니며… 그 이후로는 가끔 여행용 가방으로 썼던 기억이다..ㅎㅎ 심지어는 MBA차 미국건너올때 이 가방에 무거운 책 다 때려놓고 핸드 캐리… 그때엔 핸드 캐리의 원칙은 있어도 이상하지 않으면 특별히 핸드캐리는 무게를 재지 않아서 어깨가 빠그러지게 무거워도 안무거워 보일려고 노력했었음..ㅎㅎㅎ
왠지 작별하고 오니 쓸떼가 또 있었는데…란 생각이 드는듯 싶다…ㅎㅎㅎ
Another farewell to old memory – Reebok Blacktop Bag.. like other highschoolers in 90s I also enjoyed the ‘fashion’ of using basketball bag as school bag and has been a good utility bag afterwards.. 🙂 Maybe the most recently best use of this bag was using as a hand-carry in a flight when I flied over to Detroit from Seoul in 2005 with full pack of heavy books.. 🙂 (At then you don’t have to weight the hand-carry if it doesn’t look ‘fishy.’.:) so had to pretend this is not heavy although my shoulder was screaming… 🙂
Interestingly Wyze the manufacturer of Wyze cam started to sell KN95 masks, so I had no idea but bought it. and now I realize KN is Chinese Standard (I thought this was a KF.. Korean Standard)
So started with a little concern that quality report/certificate being in Chinese 🙂 but at the same time part of my thought was “This is the masks people use at the ‘origin'(?) of this- or to be exact where this first started” so all of sudden gave me a good confidence – maybe another ‘halo effect’? 🙂 Yes I am the stupid customer still prefer to pick Haagen Dazs than others because of the brand name being German… 🙂
Anyhow – good mask.. especially for people like me who have a large head/face 🙂 – I have a big head and have to have bigger than 7 1/2 for fitted cap…

뭐 한편으론 원산지(?) – 정확히는 최초로 시작된곳- 에서 온 제품이니 좋을거라는 이유없는 후광효과에 믿음이 생기기도 했다… (난 아직도 경영학 교과서에도 수없이 배웠지만 아직도 하겐다즈가 제일 맛있는 아이스크림이라 생각한다..) 신기한건 Wyze Cam만드는 회사에서 파는거라는점..
암튼 뭐 쓸만하고 좋다.. 대두족인 나에게 잘 맞아서 만족..ㅎㅎㅎㅎㅎ (미국에서 만드는 마스크는 항상 쓰고 나면 귀뒤가 아프다….ㅎㅎㅎ)
Happen to found an old note I took during MBA orientation session back in Ann Arbor like 15 years ago, while cleaning up the shelf.. – This note even has a coffee cup mark 🙂
I don’t even recall what the professor’s name was (because I recall he was mentioning he is moving to Tuck school after the orientation session) but this notes stroke me for a min. especially the first line of “Live a dream”
Making me think maybe the most important thing at business school is already learned at orientation days
이사준비 과정에서 짐정리하는 와중에 발견한 MBA Orientation Session note – 15년전으로 타임머신을 타고 돌아갔다왔다..기억으로는 이건 전체 session이 아니고 개별 section session이었는데 하필 다른 학교로 떠나는 교수님이 마지막 일로 진행하는 session – 지금도 -교수님 성함도 기억안나는게 안타깝긴하지만- 이 수업에 왜인지 모를 울림이 아직도 생생했는데 Dream으로 시작해서 그랬나보다..
결국 나에게는 모든게 고난의 행군 여정이었던 MBA 과정 – 어여 강산이 한번 반이 바뀌었지만, 기억에 남는건 이런거 구나 싶기도 하고 이때 꿈꿨던 모습으로 살고 있는지 궁금하다.
노트 한가운데 떡하니 있는 Coffee Mark에 진한 커피한잔이 땡겨 쭈욱들이키며 다시 읽어보았다..ㅎㅎ
살다보니 졸업식을 온라인으로 하는 사태가…모자쓰고 선생님들 영상감상… 교장 선생님 졸업 축사 (그 와중에 기념사진..ㅎㅎ) 그리고 다같이 온라인 교가 제창…
뭐 사실 이상하긴했지만 – 우리집 초딩 꼬맹이군 드디어 초등학교를 끝냈다. 축하!!
Well that was simple – listening every 5th grade teachers comments/messages, principal’s message and online dance (online selfie taken as well during his speech) and sing-a-long the school song together.
Every year, the little one at my home has always asked something unexpected as a birthday gift. (Last year he wanted to go to ski on no school Monday, so I had to take a day off and spent whole day of skiing in mid March…)
This year, he said he wanted some weird dolls from weirdly named site of TheOdd1sOut. Not surprising but what?!!
These are the Baby James dolls I bought for him at this boy’s 11th birthday gift 🙂 – character of YouTube cartoonist.. (one more still coming – delayed due to corona..)
All in all, I learned a new thing from him again – power of content on YouTube and also came to know one thing he watches regularly at YouTube..

받고 보니 진짜 ‘지같이 생긴’ 인형이 왔다..ㅎㅎ (아직도 하나는 배송 기다리는중..생일이 벌써 지난지가 3주가 되어가는데 코로나때문에 배송지연..)
