나도 한때 공부하러갈 뻔하는 동네와 지인들이 많은 동네인걸로 끝나나 싶었는데 뜬금없이 뼈속까지 모든게 시애틀인 아드님(근데 이 분은 출생지는 미시간이심..8개월때 西雅圖로 이식되심.. )께서 공부하러간 동네가 되어버렸다..
암튼 열쇠고리 스티커 collection에 유물들이 추가되었고 썬바이저도 하나 모셔왔다…
I have always thought my connections to Southern California or LA will remain only as the place I have almost have attended for Business School (UCLA) or the place where I have lots of people I know from various histories.
Hardly have I imagined to have a new connection, I was wrong to find my diehard Seattlite boy going to college to that place.
So now I have new collections on my Keychain Sticker boards as well as a new sun visor.
돌아올 때도 Economy 한켠에 짱박아놨더니 고맙게도 이번엔 드디어 Premium으로 업그레이드를 해주셨다…뭐 Gold라고 초코렛 하나 더 줘어주고 인천공항에서 Oneworld Lounge에서 밥먹게 해주신 이후로는 자리 업그레이드는 처음…(사실 이전까지 Premium Economy는 100% 회사에서 돈주고 태워준 거였다…)
마음도 쎈티하고 해서 그냥 공짜로 주는 위스키 칵테일 한잔 주욱 들이키고 다리 쭉 뻗고 숙면 모드….대충 2-3시간만에 시애틀 도착..이제 큰 분 없는 3인 가족의 새로운 일상의 시작이다…

About 2-3 hours of deep sleep after having a small can of old fashioned landed me at familiar but now different Seattle life.
정확히 대략 만 2년+1-2주 전에 여기를 방문했었는데 그 이후 2년이 흘러 많은 일이 있다가 제대로 오게되었다..
사실 갔다 돌아온 지금 마음이 좀 먹먹하지만 USC에는 정말 감사한 마음이다…
Has been about 2 years and 1 or 2 weeks to revisit here. There has been lot of things happening but thank you so much USC for trusting our A’s potentials…
SEA to LAX 쌀쌀하게 습윤한 시애틀을 떠나 LA 도착…사소하지만 이코노미 뒷편에서 가는데도 불구하고 Alaska 골드라고 이름 불러주고 민트 다크초콜렛 하나 스폐셜하게 주는데 아주 머슥하면서도 감사한 마음……ㅎㅎ
Mid winter trip to sunny Southern California from rainy and chill Seattle. I was really touched when Alaska gave me a piece of dark chocolate as an appreciation of me being a Gold member (Despite I was hiding in the back of Economy…:) )
Finally we received the official documents in paper and A graduated successfully from Interlake High school. After the long journey of nationwide 20+ college applications with handfull tears and joys, A decided to go down to LA.
Thank you USC and few others for believing A’s potential and middle-finger you terrible schools who turned down on him 🙂
This was truly a journey even for the families as well as student himself and hope everything turn out positively from now ❤️
After going thru all these emotional roller coaster ride, I am realizing there were tons of emotional or any oyher supports we got as a family. So my humble thanks to all who cared and cheered for Andrew durung the journey. Everyone is happy except my wallet and savings 🙂
온갖 롤러코스터 끝에 결국 큰 분은 LA로 향하기로 결정했다…우리도 쉽지 않은 결정이었고 이헌저런 사연 복잡한 지원자였던 우리아들 때문에 학교도 쉽지 않았을 결정일듯싶다…다 지나고 보니 정말 지원 과정에서 이래저래 사소할 수 있는 일들로도 고마운 분들이 참많았다…더불어 다끝나고 보니 학교들도 색들이 명확하고 원하는 인재상들도 명확하다…(물론 개쌍욕나오는 학교들도 몇몇 있었다…평생 저주하며살테다…흥!!)
오히려 너무 게임 같은 이번 시즌 World Series는 그닥 열심히 보지는 않았는데…. (+시애틀 매리너스의 최악의 Post Season 실패도 기여한듯…) 그나마 짬짬히 본 마지막 경기는 반전 끝에 드라마처럼 끝났다. 가을에 미친 선수가 나타나야 하고, 어이없는 실수에서 큰 변수가 반전되며, 선발 선수가 마무리로 투입되는 건 야구 최종 시리즈의 승리 공식이 되는 듯하다…
I didn’t follow this year’s world series actively as the bracket to World Series was too obvious (and Mariners missed it r.i.d.i.c.u.l.o.u.s.l.y….) but last game proved all the ingredients of closing the series – OMG bonehead errors, player turning into crazy mode with autumn, and all pitching rotation is ignored to win 🙂
2008년 겨울이 되어가는 늦가을에 Moses Lake까지 가서 54 mile 찍혀었던 상태에서 인수해온 오딩이…. 아직도 인수하고 처음 진눈깨비 내리던 Snoqualmie Pass를 넘어 몰고 오던 기억이 새록새록한데….해수로는 17년 총 21만 mile을 넘기고 어제 저녁 빠이빠이 보냈다…
오딩이 초창기 때는 기저귀 차며 Car Seat에 앉혀서 다니던 분들 두분 다 이제는 징그런 High Schooler들이고 오딩이도 이런저런 활동 많던 아이들 가진 집 + 눈비 가르며 Road Trip을 많이 다니던 집에 인수되어 온 관계로 이래저래 수고가 많았다..
Vancouver와 Portland는 밥 먹듯이 다녔고, 왠만한 서부의 명승지, 국립공원, 캠핑, Ski, 대도시들은 가족 실어 나르며 이걸로 다 가 본듯… 가까운 Rainier, Olympic, North Cascade는 물론 Banff/Jasper, LA, SF, Las Vegas, Utah의 Arches, Yellowstone, Glacier, Teton, Oregon Coast, Redwood, Whistler, Sunpeak등등.. 우리 가족 아이들의 성장 및 가족의 역사가 고대로 담겨 있던 차였고 우리집에 방문하셨던 가족 친구등의 많은 사람들이 한번 이상은 타본 적 있을법 싶 다.
더불어 Sonata 소둥이와 함께 이런저런 정비기술을 연마해볼 수 있는 기회도 많이 있었지… (미니밴의 소모품인 사이드 문짝 롤러 바꾸기, 전등 바꾸기 등등)
암튼 지난 일주일간 열심히 할 수 있는 만큼 때 빼고 광낸 후 어제 새 주인 가족 손에 열쇠를 넘겨드렸다. 🙂
지난 17년간 21만+마일 정말 수고 많았다 오뎅이 친구… 이제 남은 생이 얼마일지는 모르겠지만 새로운 주인 밑에서 열심히 무탈히 불사르길 빈다…
We finally had a parting moment with our lovely family car Odyssey after 17 years from the moment we brought it home. We had lots of fun and too many adorable memories attached to this mini van which never hesitated to drive us all around the places we went and acumulated 210k miles afterwards.
Now The Oddy is on new owners hand – hopefully serving their needs in, maybe, few remaining years of its life. 🙂 One big milestone or end of chapter for our families bittersweet – ToT
