Thanks to this endless Pandemic and magical YouTube algorithm, I have came to try unusual things I hardly done before… (and Amazon wins as I end up ordering some tools….)
Starting with one floor mat deep cleaning per day at shower time while waiting for handy steamer to arrive..:)
You break it, we fix it – lived the life of ‘Bob the Builder’ today
– PC reinstall with USB media : found no USB thumb drive at the world of Cloud, so had to order Amazon’s same day delivery and made the USB repair/installation media and recovered a PC which turned to black screen upon every boot
As our gentleman in the house -who never sits straight while putting more weights on chairs- have more time at home with various chairs because of Pandemic, this meant my chair repairing skill goes beyond the wood chair repair
– Plastic chair with broken back: after failed attempt with Super glue, went to epoxy glue. As the broken part was highly visible part of chair, had to go with multiple sanding after the glue and spraying paint and coating with Polyurethane.
– Bent Steel folding chair with disjointed horizon bar: so after using hammer and bring back the bent part, the question was whether I am willing to go into welding (which I don’t have any tools…) so settled with steel epoxy…
– Office chair: This is the still one of the mystery need to solve – how can you rock the rolling office chair?! But our gentleman must have showed that skill before he broke the chair. Similarly my first attempt with Super glue didn’t last long, so attempted with epoxy glue, but as this doesn’t have much visibility I am not willing to go into sanding/coloring part..
All in all, total four items in my household got the treatment, Home Depot and Amazon was the winner and I enjoyed smells from various chemicals (and now I understand why they check the birth date when I purchased the spray can..)
Wow.. Tried the ‘viral Korean sugar creamy’ coffee aka Dalgona (๋ฌ๊ณ ๋) coffee
Pretty simple – the formula is instant coffee, sugar, hot water- all 2 table spoons and mix it up till you see the sticky foam starts to build up and the color turns golden brown – then prepare a cup with ice & milk and just top it with the Dalgona foam – then wait a bit and watch the foam melting into the milk. Then simply sip it.. ๐
This one I used Vietnamese G7 coffee as I didn’t have the instant coffee as a replacement for 2 spoon of instant coffee but worked fine..
Our pocket door has been broken from the 2nd month after we moved into this house after some kids attempt to push it instead of slide it.. ๐ฆ
Well – my first attempt, after about a year of sad hanging, was changing the roller but only lasted shortly – it lasted short as the side-rail was bent and didn’t completely closed the door as door was taller than it should be – out of adjustable range
After some thoughts and research finally I decided bought the new rail set and decided to cut off the wall to exchange the rails – Journey started…
Order a new rail set with much solid top down hanging style, some wall cutting tools, and stud finder
Tear off the frame of the door
Pullout the door
Cut the dry wall to have some space to pullout the old rail and attach the new one
Pullout the old hanging parts attached at the door and installed new hanging parts
Hang it! – but failed as door did not move: New rail had a longer height so the door, which was already kind of oversize, was totally stuck at the bottom/floor. ๐ฆ
Detach the door & hanging parts again and cut a half inch of door with saw
Reattach the door and hanging parts
Adjust the door for, finally, a complete close – as I reduced the height of the door now everything became ‘within range’ of adjustment on how the door hangs ๐
Pulled out not-working stopper & added the new stopper at the inside of the door
Reattached the frame of the door
Re-cover the open dry wall – attach the wood (via screw) at back of the opened spot and cover the part I pulled out and screw it down
Fill the gap with wall mud and paint – looked ugly so had to fill the gap again + add orange peel and repaint -felt like a plastic surgeon.. ๐
Now need some final paint touches on the bare spot revealed during this process ๐
Weekend project – replacing odyssey’s torn bumper cover – this has been torn for years and years and finally verdict was getting a new one. Torn bumper recovery was too much or work for me or might take too much time and money if I do it at body shop…
Color matching new bumper order from ebay merchant from Grand Rapids, Michigan + youtube educated skill = sort of success except one broken bracket for bumper holder (Amazon is bringing that for me.. ๐ )
Now, I became paranoid on any small rocks hitting the bumper..
Finally, said good bye to robot dancing sliding door after studying several youtube videos on how to fix, -and the parts already has been in my hand for 10 months. ๐
Although there is every solution on youtube, anything hardly works 100% as explained – always something happens ๐ (This time, I lost my e-clip and had to rush to O’Reilly to find the replacement..haha
Maybe about a year ago, wife told me there is a burning smell of plastic at laundry room – and noticed the fan was on for some long period, and the burning smell went away when I turned off the fan. (and placed a tape on the switch not to turn on)
As this was the fan at first floor, getting access directly from the top was not an option, hence studied youtube videos for a long period and multiple times and finally attempted to replace it. This required lots of work – electricity wiring, hammering/screw nailing – as the fan was attached to different direction then intended, dry wall cutting as there was no exact size as old one in the market. Finally, found the fan’s plastic was broken causing the smell after inhaling lots of dust only after I tore down the existing fan. ๐
After all – maybe saved about $150-$200 labor cost ๐
1040X – attempting to fixing one more things in life..
One good thing about tax return filing is Turbotax does everything for people and process every possible information to get to the finish line. However, as usual as other services in US :), it never steps up to provide “opinioned” recommendation. – Yes I do miss that thing from years in Seoul – everything is based on “This is better because it does XXX for you” while here it is always “refer to professionals”
During this year’s process, I noticed one of my old tax return was filed on standard deduction instead of itemized deduction at the first year we purchased house. I kind of knew there might be something missing by doing the standard deduction at the time I own a house, but pushed out to “later I will fix it” at then.
So I just decided – as usual things in life – to file 1040X, which I have already filed once back in 8 years ago to amend one interest income -which sent the tax doc after I filed. All in all, spent nice 2-3 hours of reading and following one by oneย in reviewing the contents of 1040X instruction, 1040 instructions (and some instructions on schedule sections). So crossing the fingers that my late comeback argument works!
